BTS Health Digest #04 - From February with Love: Remaining Professional at Work
Hello,
And just like that we are in the second month of the year, the month of the year. I hope you are crushing your goals just the way that you planned.
Workplace Professionalism
As healthcare professionals, there is the need for us to always strive to remain professional in our different workplaces. There are several reasons why this is necessary, and some of them include conflict reduction, it breeds respect both at a personal level and organizational level, and improved customer/client satisfaction.
Being professional is one of the great hallmarks of a great employee and also allows you to be at your best in your organization or wherever you work.
Staying professional requires no hard and fast rules. My top rules for professionalism in the workplace are:
Punctuality
Dressing appropriately
Staying positive
Communicating effectively
Avoiding office gossip
Receiving and acting on feedback
Respecting organizational hierarchy
Focus on getting the job done.
Improving your soft skills.

Your Health
As professionals, we should also give ourselves a treat sometimes. If you are not working, give yourself a valentine treat. Go see a movie, read a new book, plan, and go on a vacation, learn something new, or plan your JAPA (someone told me that JAPA is also good for the health).
Are you working too hard? You might need to evaluate your work routine.
Set clear boundaries between work and home.
Do not take work home.
Ask for help when you need it.
Consider talk therapy (very effective for your mental health).
Take your leave when it is due (work will always go on without you).
NB: Those planning to JAPA, I highly recommend that you watch my interview with Dr. Chiemezie Ibe ( StarDoc). He shared his travails of the sojourn to the UK. Watch here and leave a comment.
